How are allergies and viruses similar and different?

Allergies are from an irritant. Viral illness is caused by a virus . Virii , which is the correct plural of virus , are living organisms much like bacteria are living organisms but they work differently and Virii are smaller. Allergens are normally pollen or pet dander or humidity etc. Some people have alergies to certain foods or medications.

Some alergies can be life threatening.Especially if you have a severe reaction to something and go into anaphylactic shock , which is when your body severely overreacts to an irritant and causes hives and breathing difficulty because your airways swell.

Viral illness can only be cured by waiting it out and getting over it by letting your immune system kill it off. Antibiotics are not effective for viral infection. Some examples are the flu or common cold. Antibiotics only work on bacteria. Which is one reason there is no cure for A.I.D.S. as it is viral.

Antibiotics do not work on allergies either. However sometimes if your sinuses get irritated enough by allergies you can eventually develope a bacterial infection in the sinuses and use antibiotics to cure it.

Hope this answered what you wanted to know.
