Oddly enough, there's quite a debate in the scientific community about this. Personally, I'm in the "non-living" camp. Viruses can't replicate without a host. They can't respond reliably (or at all) to stimuli. These are only a couple of the conditions that are required for life, and viruses, as fascinating as they are, do not full them.

Depends on your definition of what is living and what isn't. Viruses have genetic material, can multiply and evolve, so I am inclined to consider them living.

By the current scientific definition of "living" they are not.

There are a multiplicity of criteria which viri do not meet, including free multiplication.
well viruses comes under the twilight zone i.e. it possess some characterstics of living and some of non living but the most important things in viruses are that, the possess DNA so the major share of it being a living organinsm rest here.
There are 7 characteristics of life: homeostasis, organization, metabolism, growth, adaptation, response to stimuli, and reproduction.

you cant just say what sites do and dont. i can suggest a few but the individua files vary. read the discussions, and the comments from people who have already downloaded. check the seed number (high is good)

As long as you have a decent virus checker, you should not any problems, but make sure that your virus checker is up to date, also have running an up to date spyware scanner

I am assume that you are talking about computers...running Windows.

There are many types of virus/worms that can attack your computer. Most virus are self contained little programs. Usualy with malicious intent. And worms are usualy bits of script written with Microsoft Word or any script editor. Worms usualy do the same, but are easier to transmit via the internet.

The best defence in my oppinion is to have an up to date Virus Scan program i.e. Nortons, McAfee, etc... and a fire wall i.e. Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc...

And the MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do is update Windows with Microsoft updates. Also you should update Internet Expolrer, all the Microsoft Office software, and any other software that you can update.

Do a search and research programs that can block, stop, and delete virus/worms.

all i know about viruses is that reproduce within the cell and are safe from most medicines because of the cells defense mechanism against foreign proteins they arent aware of. the take over the replicating process in cells to make more viral cells that spread more

viruses are in computers not nucleic acids...duh
