u have to take some actions ... if u can pay some money then i will recomend install bitdefender 10 plus as im using it .....it works awsomee...
and u cant prevent viruses.and feel secure but if about free things u should go 4 avg ..
its the best of all fre virus scan programms. download avg from download.com and install update regulary then check for viruses ......

When you say USB, I'm going to assume that you are either referring to a USB flash drive or external hard drive to answer this question.
Virus-scan each and every thing you put on the USB drive -- and if there's a virus on the USB drive, take notice of where that file came from, be it your computer or someone else's, because that's who has the virus on their computer. I use AVG Free for all my virus-scanning, etc. -- just right-click on files you want to scan, and click on "Scan with AVG". That simple. Download from download.com below.
