Truth be told i've never gotten a virus from LimeWire (because I run Ubuntu Linux). As far as torrents go, all of my friends who have windows have never gotten viruses from torrents.

All P2P software has issues with Virii and Spyware. It all really depends on the files you download. It is possable to use Limewire and Bittorrent without getting Virii but you must download smartly. The most major diffrence with Bit Torrents and Lime wire is that Bit torrents work the shareing and seeding comepletely diffrent. Usully most users will not re-seed/share a file that has Virii on Bit Torrent
That depends entirely on the torrent. Personally I've never gotten one.
Well since i think thye are both closed source now they may have some unwanted things in the coding but i do not think that they have a virus, individual torrents may but thats why you try and get lots of seeds, more people uploading means there is almost no chance of it being a virus in my opinion.
Use the old bearshare, the new limewire/imesh/bearshares are all the same program, just different names and colors. And torrents aren't the same hting as those, those are open file sharing networks, utorrent is a program that you download to open .torrent files, which then downloads the files that are linked in the .torrent file.
It's not the applications themself that carry viruses. It's the torrent file that might be the carrier of the virus. Just make sure whatever you download from torrent sites is "legit", and have an active firewall/antivirus, and you'll be safe for anything =D.
Im using UTORRENT but be sure to run anti virus after the files have been downloaded because you will never know if he files you are currently downloading has a virus.
