Will an antivirus program remove viruses already affecting my computer?free anti virus

Yes. It will remove any virus it EVER finds. It will scan your hard drive while your on your computer, and monitor every incoming file. I use Avira AntiVir Personal Edition. Its FREE and definitely THE BEST antivirus software out there.

Yes, an anti-virus will help you if you are already infected.

I recommend Kaspersky Anti-Virus or NOD32.

If you want a free one, go with AVG.
Most anti-virus software will remove the virus as long as it up to date, but make sure to turn off the system restore first because it will still be in that part of the OS.
yes, but go with a well known company. the thing with anti virus is that they "mutate" meaning every week/month there is a new one or a variarion of the previous one. think of it as your yearly flu (but more frequent) its the "same" flu but you must get a new shot every year. same concept applies to the computer virus, its a new virus so whenever there is a new virus you must apply the latest patch. that is when signing up with a reputable company comes in. they have done the research and know how to best handle the situation. there are lots of companies to choose from.... i've listed two that are well known. good luck.
Yes, after you run a scan unless it has active scanning.
