What is the difference between viruses, worms and trojans?

Trojans rely on 3rd party applications to help infiltrate a system once in they allow remote access, keylogging and other functional tasks.

Worms replicate themselves over a computer and networks slowing down the system and thus every node within that network - these are sometimes referred to as a sub-class of a virus

Viruses (unlike worms) are not completely autonomous they attach themselves to executable files and rely on user interaction (e.g clicking a executable) to replicate.

hope this helps

Viruses are a generic term for all of those types of programs. Worms get into a system and mess with system files (usually). Trojans (named from the Trojan Horse story) downloads new spyware programs onto your computer under the guise of a real file.

A trojan is an infected program designed to look like a real program but when you open it, it can take over your computer. I think the definition of a virus is an infected file or something.
