i had an old version %26 something happend to my computer,and i jsut got an email about a new version adn i want to download it, does it harm the computer?

AIM itself does not infect your computer with viruses. If all you do is chat, you will not become infected with viruses. If you're not careful of what links you click on, or what software you download from friends, your computer may become infected.

Regarding the e-mail you received, however... If your old AIM installation was compromised, I wouldn't trust the e-mail you received. First, make sure your "old" installation is COMPLETELY uninstalled (including registry entries and all installed folders). Then go to aim.aol.com, or follow the links from www.aol.com, and download the latest version from there.

Make sure you've got the latest antivirus updates (with a reputable antivirus software provider), make sure you only download shared files with people you trust, and make sure you're careful of the files/file types you download, and you should have no troubles.

any IM programs can give you infection if you download a file%26lt;s%26gt; from unrelaible sources.
AIM doesn't usually give viruses, although there is a new virus out that allows hackers to execute a remote code (give you a virus secretly) if you view their webcam, so be wary.
ONLY when u download something kid...
alot of small businesses dont use messenger for good reasons......

- u should be fine- just DONT "dicerctly connect" with people that you dont know in real life on the messenger.....

and dont open random files they directly send u...and blah blah....
